POPULATION

According to 2002 poll, there are 72,165 citizens in the Palilula Municipality, 54,596 of which live in the city area and 17,569 live in the rural area. However, according to experts’ estimates, there are 90,000 residents in the Palilula Municipality due to a large number of refugees from Kosovo and Metohija.

Municipality of Palilula is a heterogeneous territory in terms of ethnicity and religion. The greatest percentage of the population is Serbs (90%). However, the 2002 poll is not completely accurate because the largest national minority, the Roma people, in the municipality amounted to 3,435 people, but the estimation is that there are around 7,500.
