Municipality
of
Palilula
is one
of the
five
city
municipalities
of the
city of
Niš,
which
was
established
in
September
2004. It
is
located
in the
southern
part of
the city
of Niš
and
encompasses
a
smaller
city
area to
which
fifteen
rural
settlements
are
attached.
Municipality
of
Palilula
is
geographically
a
combination
of
lowland
(in the
river
basin of
the
Nišava
and the
South
Morava)
and
highland
relief.
The area
of the
municipality
amounts
to
117.37
km2 and
according
to the
poll
from
2002.
72,165
citizens
live in
it,
54,596
of which
live in
the city
area and
17,569
live in
the
rural
area.
However,
according
to
experts’
estimates,
there
are
90,000
residents
in the
Municipality
of
Palilula
due to a
large
number
of
refugees
from
Kosovo
and
Metohija.
Medijana,
Niška
Banja,
Crveni
Krst,
Gadzin
Han,
Doljevac
and
Merosina
are
adjacent
municipalities.
Niš is
located
at
coordinates
43ş19’34”
North
and
21ş54’6”
East.
Niš is
located
in the
valley
of Niš
close to
the
confluence
of the
Nišava
and the
South
Morava.
Roads
which
lead
south,
through
the
Morava
river
valley,
branch
in Niš,
south
towards
Thessalonica
and
Athens
and east
towards
Sophia
and
Istanbul.

CLIMATE
Niš
has a
moderate
continental
climate.
The
year-round
average
temperature
is
11.2şC.
The
hottest
month is
July,
with an
average
temperature
of
21.2şC and
the
coldest
month is
January,
with an
average
temperature
of
0.2şC.
