REMEMBERING THE
CIVIL VICTIMS OF
NIS BOMBING ON
APRIL 8 1941

The
representatives
of Palilula
Municipality
together with `Stari
Nis`, the
association that
cherishes the
tradition of
rich cultural
and historical
heritage of Nis,
gathered at `Gorica`
Old cemetery of
Nis for
remembering the
people who were
killed in
bombing of Nis
in 1941.
Wreaths with
flowers were
brought to this
memorial place
by Mr Novakovic,
president of
Palilula
Municipality,
Nikola Dj.
Jovanovic,
president of `Stari
Nis` association
and Milorad
Stosic, city
councilor, all
mourned over the
painful memories
of bombing Nis
68 years ago.
Novakovic
reminded the
gathered people
that the people
of Nis should
always remember
the victims and
material damage
during the WW2
and fascist
aggression. The
president also
added that
Palilula
Municipality
would put
efforts to
reconstruct,
decorate and
keep clean this
memorial place.
Nikola Jovanovic
thanked Palilula
Municipality for
the given
support in
cherishing
heritage of Nis
and keeping it
safe from
forgetting. He
also shared his
personal wish
that no more
events like this
would happen in
future in this
town.
On that April 8
1941 in the
German Fascist
aircraft attack,
in early morning
hours, 400
people of Nis
were killed and
many of the
victims were
whole families
with children.
They were killed
in their homes
in their beds,
sleeping or in
the streets. For
a few days, many
victims could
not be
identified and
buried. Memorial
place is the
grave of 100
victims of Nis
April bombing.

were heavily
bombed:
Bozidarceva,
Takovska,
Stojana Protica,
Cara Konstantina,
Vojvode Stojana,
Vojvode Stepe,
Vojvode
Tanskosica,
Vojvode Gojka,
Zelenpoljska,
Bozidara Adzije
etc.
