OLD CEMETERY
IN THE
PROJECT OF
ADAPTATION

In next
three years,
whole
complex OLD
CEMETERY
below Gorica
will get
total new
sight
appearance.
With the
support of
the City of
Nis,
Palilula
Municipality
will
continue
with the
restoration
and
completion
of the works
at the east
side of old
Nis cemetery
and after
that they
will
continue
with the
restoration
of the
present west
gate
organization
and fencing
of this
area. From
the city
budget 3, 5
million
dinars will
be put aside
for the work
continuation
up to the
end of this
year– it was
emphasized
at the
meeting of
the
authorities
of Palilula
Municipality
with the
Mayor of
Nis,
organized
for the
promotion of
new project
of the
adaptation
of old
cemetery.
`Palilula is
one of first
city
municipalities
that has
started the
realization
of its own
ideas from
real project
that takes
into account
the current
economic
situation
and our
possibilities`
– said Milos
Simonovic,
the Mayor of
Nis at the
meeting in
Palilula
Municipality.
In the words
of PhD
Novakovic,
president of
Palilula
Municipality,
the City of
Nis have
supported
the
realization
of other
capital
investments
and
realization
of joint
project at
the
territory of
Palilula
Municipality
like the
housing of
the people
from the
sliding
ground of
Mramor-Krusce
area,
adaptation
of Memorial
park `Bubanj`,
Center for
small and
medium
enterprises.
Milan
Djurdjevic,
president of
the Assembly
of Palilula
with his
associates
and the
members of
Municipal
Council and
Blagoje
Bradic, Nis
City Council
were all
present at
this meeting
– the first
visit to
Palilula
Municipality
by Simonovic,
the Mayor of
Nis.
Old Nis
cemetery is
situated in
the area of
8 hectares
and from
that land
more than
3,4 hectares
remains
neglected.
Owing to the
engagement
of Mediana
in the
actions that
are
organized by
Palilula
Municipality,
this area
has not been
taken care
of regularly
– emphasized
Boban Mikic,
Municipal
councilor,
during the
promotion of
this new
project.
With the
idea project
of
conservator
and
restoration
works,
prepared in
the
cooperation
with the
`Institute
for monument
protection`
in Nis, the
complete
research
treatment
will be
elaborated
aiming at
one
permanent
protection
of the Old
cemetery.
President
Novakovic
added that
`after the
fencing and
installing
new lights
it is
necessary in
this complex
to organize
night watch
and video
control.
That will,
in the end,
forbid the
destruction
of
tombstones
and
transformation
of this area
into depot
and place
for garbage.
We are, on e
responsible
local
government
that takes
care of this
cultural and
historical
heritage`.
