CLEAN UP SERBIA – ACTION ANNOUNCED

 Before the beginning of the action CLEAN UP SERBIA the meeting with the mayors and the presidents of the municipalities was organized on March 2 this year in Belgrade.  The delegation of the City of Nis together, with the representatives of three Nis municipalities: Mediana, Palilula and Pantelej, was present at this meeting.

Oliver Dulic, minister of Environment and spatial planning ministry emphasized that the activity `Clean up Serbia` was started by this Ministry and the Government of the Republic of Serbia is under the coordination of the Ministry and that this action was presented like one of its major priorities. `We have gathered here to clean our country. Serbia is dirty and polluted country and the consciousness about this problem is very poor, so this asks for this action to be implemented - the action of cleaning. Cleaning Serbia should unite all of us. The problems of dirty country exist and we have to solve them`- said Minister Dulic while opening this meeting. He reminded that `every pollution affects the quality of life and that important task of the Ministry of environment and spatial planning is to reduce the tolerance level of the whole society regarding this matter`.

The overall objective of this sort of action is not of short period of time – simple fast cleaning of city dumps, but the change of our consciousness on the significance of environment that will only bring to the result of having permanent and durable solutions.

Milos Simonovic, the  mayor of Nis, also spoke at this meeting and emphasized that Nis has positive experiences of organizing ecological actions and campaigns. Our activities were directed to children and young people education. Cooperation with NGOs, educational institutions and public communal sector is defined by signing up the Protocol of regional cooperation and life environment protection, as well as sustainable development.

 The City of Nis has been more than 15 years the center of the activity of ecological campaign `Clean up the World` that in the organization of `ECOpolis net` with cooperation of NGOs is realized in the Eurobalkan region. Due to preparation campaigns for organization of pan-European ministry conference  ` Life surrounding for Europe` , held in 2007 in Belgrade, the Protocol on cooperation was signed in Palilula Municipality. This project is about regional cooperation in the process of European integrations and programme realization of `Clean up the World` campaign.

With `Clean up Serbia` activity in 2009 we can have some major savings, we can open new workplaces and we can develop new ECO industry – was all emphasized during this meeting. For this matter Fund for development of Republic of Serbia has directed the information to all local governments in Serbia. Necessary is filling up the form which should be send in no later than March 16 2009. The form must be in writings. New step in this action is forming of local coordinating teams in the cities and municipalities of Serbia.
