ENCOURAGING CITIZENS PARTICIPATION ON THE LOCAL LEVEL

`European week of local democracy` was celebrated in Palilula Municipality from October 12 to 18. More than 350 pupils with their teachers and professors from Palilula together with the citizens visited Palilula Municipality and in the discussion with the employed Municipal workers and Municipal authorities introduced themselves with Municipal work and possibilities of this organization. Palilula Municipality is one of four Serbian municipalities and the first of Nis municipalities with ISO 9001:2008 high quality standard applied.

PhD Igor Novakovic, president of Palilula Municipality, Milan Djurdjevic, president of Palilula Assembly, Vesna Jovanovic Jankovic, general secretary of Palilula Assembly and members of Palilula Council: Zorica Stojiljkovic, Boban Mikic, Milan Stevanovic and Milos Stojkovic, as well as Bojan Ilic, head of Municipal administration, spoke with the pupils from: `Bubanjski Heroji`, `Kole Rasic`, `Branko Radicevic`, `Desanka Maksimovic` elementary schools.

Within `European week of local democracy` call for papers for essays and drawings on the theme `IF I WERE THE PRESIDENT OF MUNICIPALITY` was launched for Palilula schools. All drawings and paintings on this theme were exhibited in Municipal hall and the best were awarded.

`European week of local democracy` is annual European event on national and local level, organized by local authorities and in the same time in all member-countries. Programme of these activities in Palilula Municipality was realized after the call of `Steady Conference of cities and municipalities` of Serbia. These activities are implemented with the purpose of work promotion of locally elected representatives on one side and knowledge improvement about local level on the other side.

With this activity, Palilula Municipality proved one more time that it stands for one local government responsible organization of the City of Nis, that daily realizes its vision of development along the way to European integration.
