COMPLETED WORKS ON OLD NIS CEMETERY EAST GATE

The structuring works on the eastern gate of Old Nis Cemetery are completed and restoration of already present west gate, including adaptation and fencing of this space, continues the adaptation and decoration of this area-said PhD Igor Novakovic, president of Palilula Municipality to media representatives  at the press conference held outside, on the very spot.

Public Enterprise `Nis stan` successfully made the realization of the first phase of Old Cemetery adaptation. Necessary financial resources in the amount of 3,5 milion dinars for these purposes were provided by Palilula Municipality on the basis of the project by Administration of Economy, Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection of the City of Nis. It is expected that by 2012 the whole complex Old Cemetery under Gorica, according to president Novakovic words, will have gotten new appearance.

Old Nis Cemetery spreads over 8 hectares and 3,4 hectares of this area represents deserted area. Owing to projects and actions that Palilula Municipality realizes with public Communal enterprise `Mediana` and NGO sector, this area is being cleaned and taken care of from time to time.

President Novakovic added that after fencing and installation of new lights, it is necessary to organize guard service and video watch for this area. `This will, in the end, prevent further destroying of the monuments and transforming this space into dump area.
