29.09.2009

With the support of the City of Nis, Palilula Municipality continues with the restoration and completion of works at the eastern gate – arranging and fencing of this area. It is expected that up to 2012 the whole complex `Old cemetery` under Gorica will have gotten one new look. `Palilula is one of the first Municipalities that started from real and realistic project in the realization of its ideas, having the idea of this area reconstruction. This takes into account our current financial situation and our possibilities`-said PhD Novakovic, president of Palilula Municipality.
During the recent promotion of this project approved to Palilula by the Administration of Economy, Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection of the City of Nis with 3,5 million dinars, the mayor of Nis Milos Simonovic announced that the completion of  the works on the west gate of Old Cemetery will be taken from the city budget in 2010 as financial resources previously planned.
Old Nis cemetery is the area of 8 hectares and from that surface 3,4 hectares is simply deserted area. `Owing to projects and actions that Palilula Municipality realizes with public communal enterprise `Mediana` and NGO sector, this area seems to be periodically preserved. Unfortunately, certain citizens constantly ruin this area and this is done even after our warnings and the presence of communal Municipal inspectors. At night they even bring garbage to this place`-emphasized Boban Mikic, Municipal councilor. With idea type of project of conservatory and restoration works, previously prepared in the cooperation with the Institute for monument protection of Nis, in the next three years the complete exploration-conservatory treatment of this area aiming at permanent protection of Old Nis Cemetery will have been completed. President Novakovic added that after fencing and installation of new lights, it is necessary to organize guard service and video watch.. `This will, in the end, prevent further destroying of the monuments and transforming this space into dump area. As one responsible Municipality that takes care and cherishes its historical and cultural heritage, Palilula Municipality proves that, with the present way of work, it fulfils all clear and strict demands of ISO quality standard 9001:2008 that was recently adopted.
